   Wow that website just lost ALL credibility. I use to go there too. it’s a shame that a site that’s suppose to be used as a place for info on stats, is run by a bunch of bias idiots.

   wow… i completely agree with you. NO WAY at all any of those players you mentioned are better than him. Yao? WTF kind of joke is that. T Mac? Are you serious? The guy has a few good seasons and ends up fading away and becoming non-existent. Ray Allen and Pierce are good players but nowhere near the level of kobe. Amare? *shaking my head* kobe is definitely a top 10 player. i’d even go so far to say he’s top 5. 90th… no way.

    In defense of basketball-reference.com, that list is derived from ratings submitted by visitors to the wesite, not the editors or writers themselves. Users can click the “Rate some matchups” button on the link above. They’re presented with the names and career stats of two players, and they can choose which one the think is better, or skip. And you can rate as many matchups as you want.
    Obviously, some Kobe hater either clicked through a while bunch of matchups, or more likely wrote a script to do it automatically, and had it downvote Kobe every time he was matched against another player.
